Invisible Shield is a chronicle of some of the sleep journeys the author experienced while she and certain members of her family were plagued by a generation curse. On one of her journeys, she learned that the door was willfully opened, at the very origin of her family, for evil to enter. All through the times of her struggles, confrontations, visitations, and rescues, she often wondered why her life was so wretched.
Also, at an early age, Verna learned her sleep was not just sleep, but also a corridor into the invisible world where she spent hours while her body slept. Hearing disembodied voices, day and night, was part of her everyday life. Certain members of her family practiced Hoodoo. They passed on their way of life to receptive females in the family, which included training Verna for the role of Priestess.
She was chosen because she had “the gift” according to her grandmother and great grandmother. But Verna rejected their efforts and refused to obey. As a result, she was harassed by spirits from the dark side all of her childhood and much of her adulthood, and she was severely punished by both her grand and great grandmothers during her early childhood. Long after they were deceased, the powers of darkness continued their attacks. So much so until Verna was convinced she was born to be miserable.
She has written this book to inspire others to never give up. Verna says, “Do not give up on you, or your children, or your grandchildren, or your great-grandchildren. Continuous adverse behaviors have roots that reach far beyond your awareness. Only through the Power of God can a family be delivered and released from the grip of strongholds."

In Chapter 11 of her book, Verna describes, in detail, what she endured while being sovereignly delivered out of the generation curse that had plagued her family from the very origin of her family.
Verna refers to her deliverance as, "Divine Exorcism." Because on that evening no one else was with her, when she realized something strange was happening to her. And she had no control over it. Feeling unlike herself, she fell to her knees, placed her face into her cupped hands, and prayed, "Lord help me."
Suddenly, without her control, she leaped straight up and rushed into the next room, stood with her back against the closet door, slid down to the floor, slowly turned onto her stomach and began slithering across the floor like a snake.
She remembers thinking, "Why am I crawling around on this floor in my new green silk dress."
The next things she knew, somehow, she had leaped up and landed in the middle of the bed, which was about six feet away. For a moment she thought, how did I do that. But she quickly dismissed it and began jumping up and down like a little girl playing on a trampoline, yelling, "whee-ee! whee-ee!"
And that was the beginning of three hours of uncontrollable behaviors. She remembers it all, but could do nothing to control it.
She endured three long hours of "bizarre behavior".
The next day while she dressed for work, the soft inner voice spoke, "you were delivered last night." Delivered from what? She pondered. Verna did not nor could not understand....
Inspiration: Verna says, "Writing this book was therapy for me. Shining light on the darkness that plagued me helped set my mind and my heart free."
As a result of her sovereign deliverance (divine exorcism) the link between her and the generation curse she was born into was broken. And following those hours, she and her children and all future generations were set free.
After years of inner bondage, Verna's heart felt calm and numb. Then Joy and Peace.
Months later, God revealed to her, "Yes. The curse is broken. But know that each of your children can start a generation curse of their own."
Upon hearing those words, Verna was sadden and wondered had she been mistaken about the curse being broken. Sorrow and grief overwhelmed her along with thoughts of what ifs....
Her mind was overflowed with thoughts of many experiences she had gone through beginning at age 5 until the year of her 50th birthday.
She did not want her children to become trapped by the deception and cunning of the enemy.
As she pondered what else could she do, the Angels within reminded her that she had already made preparations for her children's freedom when she trained them in the ways of God, and when she gave them, individually and collectively, back to God while they were yet babies and small children.
One day, as she prayed, God said to her, “You gave them back to Me because I told you to."
